Bharat Petroleum entered the upstream sector in 2003 with an aim to provide partial supply security of crude and hedging of price risks and to become a vertically integrated oil company. A wholly owned subsidiary company of Bharat Petroleum, by the name Bharat PetroResources Limited (BPRL) was incorporated in October 2006.

Global spread

As of 30th September 2016, Bharat PetroResources Limited has participating interests in 17 exploration blocks in consortium with other companies. Of the blocks, 7 blocks are in India, 6 in Brazil, and 1 each in Mozambique, Indonesia, Australia and East Timor. BPRL’s Global Spread comprises a total acreage holding of around 24,375 sq. km. including about 88% offshore acreage.
